The Township of Algonquin Highlands is seeking applications from qualified persons for the position of Deputy Chief Building Official/By-Law Officer (Deputy CBO). Join a dedicated team that strives to make us the best place to live, work and play.

Reporting to the Chief Building Officer (CBO), the Deputy CBO is responsible for ensuring compliance with provisions of the Ontario Building Code and all other relevant legislation and regulations while performing all aspects of the Building Department. The Deputy CBO is also appointed as a By-Law Enforcement Officer and may investigate complaints and enforce municipal by-laws under the supervision and direction of the CBO.

The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• CBCO (Certified Building Code Official) designation, or willingness to obtain;

• Successful completion of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing courses: Small Buildings, Plumbing All Buildings, Building Services, Building Structural, Complex Buildings, CBO legal and Part 8 On-Site Sewage, or willingness to complete;

• Experience in building and septic inspections and enforcement in a Municipal environment is preferred;

• Excellent interpersonal, project/time management, organizational, analytical, communication skills;

• Superior customer service skills;

• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Building Code Act;

• Demonstrated working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;

• Proficiency in the Office Suite of products or equivalent;

• Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.

Salary Range: $34.94 to $39.33 per hour
